governance & membership
Our work is driven by our member communities.
UFFCA Membership
All First Nations communities with territories that lie within the Upper Fraser watershed are eligible for UFFCA membership, as well as organizations that represent one or more of these communities. There are 23 distinct First Nations communities in the Upper Fraser eligible for membership, including First Nations from the southwestern Sekani, southeastern Dakelh (Carrier), Wet’suwet’en, Tsilhqot’in, and Northern Shuswap territories.
Board of Directors
The UFFCA is governed by a board of 8 Directors who are nominated by the First Nations communities and organizations within their watershed-based geographical sub-regions:
- Nechako-Stewart (2 Directors)
- Upper Fraser-McGregor (1 Director)
- Cottonwood-Blackwater (1 Director)
- Quesnel-Horsefly (2 Directors)
- Chilcotin-Chilko (2 Directors)
Directors provide strategic leadership to advance the UFFCA’s vision, mission, objectives, culture, effectiveness, and financial sustainability. They are also advocates for the work of the UFFCA and the fisheries rights and interests of Upper Fraser First Nations.
Community Fisheries Representatives
Member communities may appoint a Community Fisheries Representative (CFR) to support information sharing between the UFFCA and member communities. CFRs bring invaluable local knowledge, expertise, and community perspectives to the UFFCA table, and the information they provide is a key driver of UFFCA priorities and objectives. Financial resources are provided for CFRs to participate in UFFCA meetings and support information sharing.
